I don't believe in Karma, but I like the word Karma because it sounds cool. I do believe that all humans are made in God's image, and that His love is a part of us just as much as sin. Some people would disagree with me. But I think that Karma doesn't give God enough credit. Karma doesn't give sin enough credit. I don't want everything wrong I do to result in something wrong done to me. I think we can all say that we would be dead on the street if Karma was real. All that being said, this week I had an incredible encounter with what I call God's love at work in the world. You call it what you like. God softened me, humbled me, and showed me what love does.

Good things that happen and never get heard of: This June, Evelina Children's Hospital was visited by two heroic guests. Actually, their names are Paul and Nick. They are two men who work for All Clean, a cleaning contractor that serves several London hospitals. These guys were good sports and dressed-up as superman and spiderman while they cleaned the windows overlooking the children's wards. If I am grocery shopping I want to talk to my cashier and bless their day. When I go running I want to say "good morning" to my neighbors and highfive the homeless guy on the corner of Auburn and Lancaster. I want to invite my waitress to say grace with me and talk to strangers in line at Starbucks. Instead of choosing to go through my classes and eventually my career with nothing but the task in mind; my goal is to be like Paul and Nick. To bring the intentionality of a spirit-driven life into a mortal world.
I am able to have a purpose in this big oyster of a world. Breath gives life. But is breath all we need for life? |
