This month I have had the privilege to reconnect with an old friend, Julia Brock.
I grew up with Julia in Massachusetts. We went to Spanish class together in the 2nd grade, and I distinctly remember watching my first scary movie at her house. Almost six months ago I saw a video of Julia getting baptized on facebook. I remember thinking "Wow!" Julia had made it pretty clear as she grew up that Jesus wasn't someone she was interested in giving her life to. I began to pay more attention to what she had to say, I was curious about how God would use her. God was taking her heart to HAITI! Two weeks ago Julia started posting about an organization she felt called to start, Blessed Children Ministries. Reading her candid perspective on God's calling has been a true encouragement. For a young woman who meant nothing to me six months ago, I kind of want to be her best friend. Julia has put everything on the line for this calling. She has given up her job, her boyfriend, her friendships, her life is in His hands. Blessed Children is being built by an educated, persistent, ENFP who isn't taking no for an answer. I am hoping when the world catches her vision-- a community will begin to form around it. After hearing her testimony and the beautiful love story God has written to fuel this ministry- I want to share the vision of Blessed Children with all of you. "Blessed Children aims to equip, nurture, and empower orphaned children of Haiti, in Christ, in order that they may find their inner ambitions and reach their full potential. Babies in Haiti waddle the streets openly. Since so many Haitians have HIV, due to lack of healthcare, many babies are unable to be taken care of. Julia's dream is to openly walk the streets of Haiti in order to find the young children that are orphaned, and bring them to a place they can call "home". Blessed Children desires to create a self-sustaining "save haven" that will include: crops, farm animals, a school, a "home", a church, a clinic, and a "vision building". The resources collected from the farm will be brought to the markets of Haiti in order to put money into the economy. The "vision building," similar to a children's museum, will have many rooms, all empty initially. As the children come into the save haven, the rooms will be created. They are the visionaries. They are the dreamers. Want to get involved? Have something to offer? Contact them at:[email protected] Blessed Children is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization." Julia's story is an example of what God can do in our lives when He calls, and we pick up. She is humbly pursuing a dream God has given her for the Haitian people. It is incredible to watch her develop a detailed and strategic plan to relieve the daily lives of Haitian orphans. I'm excited to watch her change the world. Julia shares her story in a much more powerful way than I ever could.
